kudos to kapono, Kayla and Mia
Tonight's So YOu Think YOu can Dance was excellent with quite a number of excellent routines but my favoruite was the powerful addiction routine by Mia Micheals for Kupono and Kayla. Wow! So much emotion, such lovely movements. Mia continues to be my fav choreographer year aftter year and routines like this one are why. Soime Brown Paper sketches
Here's three sketches on the wonderful brown paper sketchbooks. Did them up to fill in the corners of my panel at AC. Got a couple more started that I migh finishe tomorrow ut I have to get my second ox o' zfg xhippdc down to Diana soon. The con is fast approaching! All these should be up for sale on my panels:) Here's the result of tonight's sketching Tso more under the cut but both are compeletely work safe. Just saving space! >lj-cut> I simply adore Hooded Mergnanzers and am always delighted to spot them when they are wintering in my neck of the woods. They are such sculptual in their looks and always seem to be bursting with personality! 8x7 inches pencil and coloure pencil on brown paper. A new character, appropriately named "Cloud." I hope you'll see more of him soon. 8x7 pencil and coloured pencil on brown paper. Current Mood: complacent | | Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 | | 11:27 pm |
Another fox
Apparently, today is paint foxes day:) Here's the results of this evening's painting session. Emma appears again. No idea what's going on or why she's so fond of those sheer drapes but hey, it's not like I know a lot about her yet. She's very close lipped! "Draped Emma" 12x16 acrylic on illustration board Current Mood: calm | | 2:57 pm |
At the bigger cons, the Pirates like to have a challenge. This time we've choose the old poem that deals with which children and days of the week. Mondays child is fair of face, Tuesdays child is full of grace, Wednesdays child is full of woe, Thursdays child has far to go, Fridays child is loving and giving, Saturdays child works hard for his living, And the child that is born on the Sabbath day Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay. I got Sunday and I just had to do a cute little cross dresser since I suspect everyone else is going to do girls:)And in the spirit of full disclousure the below painting is loosely based on an anime pic. All the paintings will be display together in the AC art show, so you can check them all out. "Sunday's Child" 11x14 acrylic on illustration board. Under a cut due to cross dressing but nothing is showing other than full panties:) ( Read more... ) Current Mood: calm | | 12:13 am |
Tonight's work
Got a couple more finished after dinner:) This sketch has been sitting in my sketch pile for over a year now and I finally decieded to paint it up. I like the alert, "I've just heard something" expression on his face. I can't help but wonder what it is that he's heard. "In the Distance". 10x10 acrylic on illustration board. Another one that is so not work safe! ( Read more... ) Current Mood: hot | | Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 | | 3:48 pm |
Couple more
Here's what I got done during the day today:) "Celeste at Ease" Hmm first time I've ever drawn Celeste so relaxed looking. 19x16 gouache, acrylic and watercolour on illustration board. One more under the cut. Definitely not work safe! ( Read more... ) Current Mood: sleepy | | Monday, June 15th, 2009 | | 11:28 pm |
A couple for AC
Was at the Waterloo Arts Festival this past weekend so no art work was done. Why am I so exhausted at the end of a day of standing or sitting around and smiling/talking with people! It just wipes me out. So today I got back to working on AC art. Here's a couple I got done: "By the Light" I so love doing these! I'm rather mystified at his expression though. It's not at all what I was aiming at and attempts to retouch in that direction have utterly failed. I know what it looks like to me, what do you (oh faithful viewers) see as his emotion? 12 x18 acrylic on illustration board. One more under the cut. Kinda pin uppy but nothing showing. STTYCD babbling
Since I had a dreadful "I can't draw worth shit day" I'm going to burble on about tonights "So You Think You Can Dance". How happy I am to get to the actual dancing competition:) Overall, an excellent first night. A nice mix of styles and music. Here's my thought on each couple in order of appearence. Jeanine and Phillip danced hip hop to "Mad" I'm hot and cold on hip hop. Sometimes I really like it but often I find it doesn't really touch me and I'm left admiring some of the moves but not engaging. This one was just all right though it did have some nice moves towards the end. Asuka and Vitalia danced Broadway to "Hot Honey Rag" Eh. I like both dancers but the statico music and jerky dancing didn't do much for me. They did look great in costume though. Karla and Jonathon danced Cha Cha to "Poker Face". First off, I love that song! Nice beat and very catchy. They did a great job on this and it was hot! Very sexy, very bouncy and overall fun to watch. Love the split he did through her legs and then up. Randy and Evan danced Jazz to "I Only Have Eyes For You" Very sensual with excellent flow. Some wonderful lifts! Paris and Tony danced Hip hop to "Let the Beat Rock". I agree with the judges on this one. Just didn't gell. Some nice moves but eh. My least fav routine of the night. Caitlin and Jason danced Bollywood to "Jai Ho". Okay, I love, love, love Bollywood. The costumes, the dance beat, the music. It's just so darn much fun! Caitlin really shone in this one. One of my favs. Janette and Branden danced a Foxtrot to "Come Fly With Me". Effortless, smooth with great chemistry between the dancers. Fantastic lifts! It could have been rather old fashioned feeling following the Bollywood number but was not! Excellent. Asly and Kupono danced Jazz to "Feit Mountain". Okay, that was fun! Great movements, wonderful choreography and fantastic characters. Very unusual, funky and fun. A real standout. Mellisa and Ade danced contemporary to "Right Here Waiting For You" Contemperary is one of my fav genres and these guys did great! Lovely flow through the whole routine, wonderful lifts and I love the look of a black man wearing an open white shirt. Yummy:) Kayla and Max danced a Samba to "Jum Bah Day". Sharp! I can't belive that Kayla has never danced ball room. She just attacked that routine and really gave herself up to it. She must have been so dizzy at the end! Well, I've already picked who I'd send home. I'll find out if I'm right tomorrow:) Current Mood: blank | | Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 | | 1:15 am |
From the stacks
While looking for something else, I stumbled upon this oldish painting from 2004. It was orginally done for Alderac Entertainments's CCG, Warlord. Since I need to fill in some space for AC in the gen room, I thought I'd matt it up and bring it along. "Rune Runner" 12x15 acrylic on illustration board. <br | | Tuesday, June 9th, 2009 | | 11:16 pm |

Some AC art
AC is coming up fast and I've got to get some more work done for it. I've already got a nice number of pics but still need more to fill things out. Here's a couple I finished up today. A new set of bookmarks featuring spotted cat. I like the way the coloured flowers stand out:) These will be printed out and sold as bookmarks and the originals will be cut apart, matted and sold in the art show. Each image is 2.5 x9 marker and bit of acrylic on parchment paper. Another under the cut, mildly not work safe as it involves two nekkid male otters but nothing is showing or even implied. But better safe than sorry! ( Read more... ) Current Mood: busy | | Friday, June 5th, 2009 | | 12:23 am |
Couple more colab pics with Natasha
Had a great time finishing up these last two collab pics with Natasha. I just couldn't resist painting up both of these. Though I did learn some of the limitations of usin acrylic on bristol! Very different from my beloved illustration board. "Gears". This was just so damn much fun! All the little bits of metal and leather. For some reasons hyenas just lend themselves to steam punk! This will be up for sale, matted and framed in the AC art show. Prints both jumbo and regular available. 9 x12 acrylic on bristol There's another pic below the cut and then two comobos to show you my roughs, Natasha's refinments and then the final pick again:) ( Read more... ) Current Mood: accomplished | | Thursday, May 28th, 2009 | | 4:20 pm |
Experimentation
The below shots were taken in March while Marg and I were out playing with the cameras and trying some of the black and white and filter settings. Generally I'm not a lanscape photographer but this was considerable fun:) I loved the sepia filter! It's just such a pretty look. This tree is one of my favs along the main path at one of local parks. Even when trying to do landscape shots I can't resist details! A couple grey scale pics
I finished up the last of the tax commissions today and am planning to start the dragon statues tomorrow. That meant I could play around a bit this evening. These two pics are from the batch of sketches I did for Natasha. The other two I'm going to paint up but these two are done in grey scale marker like they were all originally supposed to be:) Both of these should show up at the Anthrocon art show. I'm thinking of printing off small copies of the two pencils and matting them with the original. All are under the cut due to female and male nudity. Definitely not work safe! Meet Raffles
We've acquired a new character in our back yard. I'm sure he's been around for years but just recently he's been out in the early evenings when I can see him and take pictures. He's been duley named Raffles and we're in the middle of training each other. I think he figured out if he waits till after dark the peanuts are all gone. So he's started coming out under the feeder earlier. I threw him some peanuts of his own and he's been coming back occasionally to beg for more. If I see him I throw him a handfull. He's started heading over under the feeder if he sees me at the window. Don't anyone give me any crap for feeding him. I already feed a large vairety of birds, three types of squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits. I know I get skunks and possums over night as well raccoons. So a day time raccoon is just fine with me. He's adorable! These are not the sharpest photos as it's shooting through a window, in early evening light! The 500 ml lens does not like low light! A few more shot under the cut. Lots of cute!
